A virtual town hall meeting regarding a new Countywide Health Assessment Survey is scheduled to take place one week from today (Thursday, March 31st). The Jasper County Health Department partners with the hospital in Newton every three years on an assessment of the health needs throughout the County. MercyOne Newton hired an outside consultant to conduct the survey and compile its results.
That’s Becky Pryor, the Administrator of Jasper County Health Department. She says in 2019, when the last health assessment was done, Jasper County was the 68th unhealthiest of Iowa’s 99 counties.
The top issues identified in the 2019 Jasper County Health Assessment were Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Homelessness, Obesity, Primary Care, and Domestic Violence.
