PLANS have been submitted to create a new restaurant at Liberty Wharf in one of the units which is currently used as office space.

The proposals include turning Unit 13C, above the eastern entrance, into a ‘high-end, locally and sustainably focused restaurant with a bar area for pre- and post-dinner drinks’.

If successful, the business would be open from midday until 11pm Tuesday to Saturday and it is expected to create 15 full-time jobs.

A design statement submitted to the planning website by Axis Mason, on behalf of the applicant Gorton Trading, said: ‘The intended operation is to create a high-end, locally and sustainably focused restaurant with a bar area for pre- and post-dinner drinks.

‘The restaurant will continue to progress the applicant’s demonstrated commitment to the highest possible standard, aiming to set the benchmark for how a hospitality business can be run in terms of quality and sustainability. The restaurant will aim to cater for the higher end of the market while remaining accessible and relaxed.

‘The applicant intends to continue to promote the hospitality industry more generally, aiming to encourage young people into what can be an extremely rewarding career.’

It added: ‘The proposed restaurant is located within central St Helier and has good transport links with the main bus terminus, the Weighbridge taxi rank and several large public car parking areas.’
