PLANS have been submitted to relocate the Jersey Bowling Club to Warwick Farm as part of the project to build the new hospital at Overdale.

If approved, the bowls club’s new home would consist of a bowling green, a clubhouse with changing rooms, a function room, bar and commercial kitchen and there would be parking for 44 cars, 12 bikes and six motorbikes.

The club, which was established in 1912, is due to be relocated in order to make way for the access route to the proposed new hospital. The bowls club would operate from 9am to 9pm Monday to Sunday, while the events venue would be open from 9am till 1am at weekends.

The artificial bowling green will have floodlights and be of an international standard. The new changing rooms would be double the size of the existing ones and the new bar and function room are expected to be able to cater for 100 people.

A footpath would be built around the bowling green and the clubhouse will have wheelchair access. There will be fencing around the facility and the car park will have room to accommodate a minibus, which is often needed to accommodate visiting teams.

A design statement, submitted by MS Planning on behalf of the government, read: ‘The application site is the northern part of Warwick Farm, bordered on the west by Grande Route de St Jean and three houses, on the north by Rue des Arbres, and by agricultural land with several greenhouses to the east. To the south is Frédée Lane, which bisects the farm.’

It continued: ‘The Jersey Bowls Club would be a positive addition to the area, provide the necessary replacement facility for the members of the club and help facilitate the strategically important Our Hospital project.’

The move is expected to take place at the end of September, following the conclusion of the 2022 summer bowls season.
