The Bergen Circle apartments on Girard Avenue in Springfield are set to reopen on Wednesday.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Bergen Circle apartments on Girard Avenue in Springfield are set to reopen on Wednesday.
According to the City of Springfield, Mayor Domenic Sarno announced three years ago that the complex has dealt with many different problems and that it was time for a change. MassHousing closed on $21.2 million in affordable housing financing for extensive rehabilitation of the apartment complex.
It was announced that there will be 89 one-bedroom units, 72 two-bedroom, 20 three-bedroom, and 20 four-bedroom apartments. Of the 201 units, 170 are supported by federal project-based housing vouchers. 161 apartments will be in a seven-story, steel-framed building, and 40 apartments in seven, two-floor townhomes.
There will be a grand re-opening ceremony and a ribbon cutting on Wednesday at the apartments at 1:00 p.m. Mayor Domenic Sarno of Springfield will attend.
“I want to thank MassHousing, especially CEO Chrystal Kornegay who we have worked so well with on a number of housing initiatives, and The Michaels Organization for the significant improvements to the Bergen Circle property and for their continued belief and investment in our Springfield. My administration is committed to utilizing any and all means to boost our community’s housing stock. This development checks every mark for our low- and moderate-income residents and market-rate housing,” said Mayor Sarno.
