This year’s Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement weekend has been postponed due to the Summer Olympics.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – This year’s Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement weekend has been moved due to the Olympics.

The dates have been changed from August 16 and 17 to October 12 and 13.

According to John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame (HOF), the organization received multiple requests from the worldwide basketball community to postpone the event to avoid conflict with the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, which is being held in August.

“The Hall of Fame appreciates the input from friends across the basketball community and the recommendations of our production partners regarding a schedule adjustment for our enshrinement ceremonies,” said Doleva. “We understand the importance of the burgeoning Olympic basketball events to our broader constituencies and regret any inconvenience caused by the change. This one-time move to October assures that we are best positioned to once again create a great experience for our guests and deliver viewers a first-class presentation to celebrate our esteemed Class.”

Enshrinement weekend will kick off on Saturday, October 12, with the Tip-Off Celebration and Awards Gala at Mohegan Sun. On Sunday, October 13, Springfield will host a day of activities and cap the weekend with the Enshrinement Ceremony at Springfield Symphony Hall.
